Top Christmas Campaigns of Past and Present

With the most wonderful time of the year also comes the most wonderful campaigns of the year. Brands are usually fighting for that top spot on who can bag the most views on their heartwarming and joyous adverts.

But which brands have pulled it out the bag in 2022? And what campaigns have had the biggest impact on consumers over the years? Let’s dive in and take a look at our favourite festive campaigns from past and present.

1. Have Your Elf a Merry Christmas

We’re starting off with the Christmas ad everyone is talking about this year. And no, this time it’s not John Lewis!

Bringing in 1.9 million views in under a week, the campaign named ‘Have your Elf a Merry Christmas’ has been one of the most popular festive ads of 2022.

Asda have cleverly recruited fun-loving Buddy the Elf to spread cheer across their store. The popular Christmas movie ‘Elf’ is up there with the festive favourites, so what better way to spread joy across our televisions this year? Not only has this campaign brought in millions of views on TV, they’ve also stormed social media as the hashtag #asdachristmas2022 has reached over 11.5 million views on TikTok.

Son of a nutcracker – that’s a lot of views!

2. Penhaligon’s World of Wonder

Now for one of our favourite festive beauty campaigns. Let’s talk about the luxurious British perfumers, Penhaligon’s. Working only with the best quality ingredients for their exquisite range of fragrances, they’ve built an excellent reputation for themselves since 1870.

As always, they’ve gone all out on their Christmas gift sets. They’ve dressed this up with some stunning photography on their website to showcase their products and packaging over the festive period.

PAGE worked on the production for the ‘Penhaligon’s World Of Wonder’ gift set range. This included foil embossing, product fitment and speciality finishes for each individual gift box set. These made up the core components for Penhaligon’s Christmas imagery which was rolled-out across their printed and digital media B2C campaigns. This range takes on a twist from the usual Christmas campaign with its fun and quirky circus theme.

3. Holidays are Coming

Moving onto another brand who knows how to smash their marketing, let’s delve into Coca Cola’s 2022 Christmas campaign.

Bringing Londoner’s together, Coca Cola organised an epic karaoke sing-along in Piccadilly Circus. Crowds gathered round in the heart of London to sing carols while the famous ‘Holidays are coming’ tune played in the background.

Here’s what Laura Moon, Senior Brand Manager at Coca-Cola Great Britain, said, “This year, we want to share the magic of Christmas with more people than ever before and we were delighted that so many came together for our Christmas karaoke sing-along, creating a very special and festive moment.” This was such a great way to stop the busy passers-by for a moment to spread the festive spirit, all while promoting Coca Cola.

4. Sainsbury’s Ad 2014

Now, let’s throw it back to 2014 and talk about Sainsbury’s’ touching Christmas campaign. They really pulled it out the bag and moved us all with their advert in partnership with The Royal British Legion.

The ad was made to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the truce between the Allied troops and Germany for Christmas Day 1914. The soldiers put down their weapons and came together to play football over Christmas time.

This touching advert shows the kindness between the soldiers, as one shares his chocolate bar with the opposing side. Sainsbury’s executed this brilliantly as people were able to purchase the chocolate in store, with a percentage of proceeds going to charity to help soldiers and their families.

With brands always competing for the top spot for Christmas campaigns, it’s no surprise they manage to pull it out the bag and WOW us every year.
